Mommies are not synonymous with trampolines

and other things you say to naked three-year-olds right out of the bath

I think: they call him the streak... fastest thing on two feet
then wonder why kids are so slippery when wet

Batman wants to wear his sister's pink winter boots on a 90-degree summer's day

Who would have guessed so much of motherhood would be spent trying to explain that?
winter clothes for winter, cold, snow
summer clothes for hot weather, sweating, swealtering days
the twain shall not cross

and of course
mommies are not designed to be jumped on
chewed on
 bitten
   hitten
colored on
or ignored

Dress well, thy part.

So let me ask a few questions. Does one go to a business meeting in a bathrobe or swim suit? What would happen if you did? You would turn a few heads, be snickered at, perhaps asked to go home and change, or maybe even get fired?

Does one get married in their grubbies? Or go to the fancy restaurant in the same clothes you use for scrubbing a toilet?

How many hours does the average lady spend in front of a mirror everyday to look the way she thinks is her?

Does not every stage costumer purposely construct the look of the character down to the smallest details to tell you what you need to know about them before they even open their mouth?

Do we not dress for the parts we play everyday?

And if so, then it is only reasonable to assume that if we dress like we are seeking male sexual attention that we would then get male sexual attentions? (ie, if you dress like a slut, you are must likely going to be treated like a slut.)

But wait- You don’t want this attention? Then just maybe you should consider dressing for the kind of attention you wish to receive.

I just finished reading an article that complained about the school asking the girls to refrain from wearing tight pants and belly showing shirts to school because they “distracts the boys.” They writer of the article claims that it teaches girls that they are to blame for how the boys treat them, and this creates the “rape culture.”

Seriously, we are now blaming men for the fact that they are hard wired to look at girls?

Yes, ideally, real men will look and never touch, and treat you like a respected equal no matter what you are wearing. But let’s face it, it is hard for the best of us to do that, (not to mention 12 year old boys) we try, but we still judge others on how they present themselves, and quiet often we treat them according to how they dress and behave.

So either you can agree with the writer and believe dress codes blame girls for being raped. Or you can accept the fact humans are humans and subject to biological follies, and use that to your advantage.

And one more word: if you drink to much and walk down dark alleys alone at night, it is not the “rape culture” that will get you. It is your own stupidity. Years ago there were a lot of concrete rules to prevent women from behaving in those ways that were most likely to compromise them.  Dark alleys and drunk girls are putting themselves in compromised situations, no matter what the decade or century is. Yes, the raper is guilty, 100%, but you most likely could have prevented it had you first thought about the possible consequences.

Here they are

Here is my initial collection of Disney Princess inspired Temple Wedding Dresses.

The very first design is Arielle. She has a satin bodice with beading, and a full tulle skirt with beading.

The First one is Belle. This is a satin dress with detachable puffed chiffon overskirt and scarf.

The next is Jasamine. It has a bubble skirt, satin accents at neck and a thick brocaded chiffon for arms.

Third is Mulan. It's main fabric is a brocade of white on white with satin trim and frog closures.

Fourth is Snow White. If you remember how the plain clothes her wicked step mother put her in only made her true beauty shine out more.... we have a simple interlock knit for the bodice, skirt and sleeves with satin belt (with bow in back), and sleeve puffs. It is tonally embroidered around the neck.

Disney Princess inspired Wedding gowns

Well, in the spirit of this article, I did look and find the full collection on line and it was a slight letdown.

So in my own way... I created Disney Princess inspired Temple wedding gowns. (these will be added shortly).

Highlights from my travel log

Well,
We are waiting for the plane home from LA. And it is 12am here, but this section of the airport is still hopping.

However, there are a few highlights to this trip to the smoggy city that has more cars then people, and more freeways then sidewalks.

The first was actually while packing. I was trying to load my little Mini (prius) with 5 huge luggages that weighted between 70-90 pounds each, and I was slipping on ice and trying to find all ways to shove so many big things into one little car.

I thought that if some body was watching me it would have been hysterical, but nobody was. So then I wondered is something still funny if no one is there to laugh?

Then the street names in downtown LA had interesting pulls on our verbal memories. The street named Figeroa, had us singing opera every time we passed it. The street named Flower had us quoting lines from Bambi and so on. Then there was a street named Hope, and of course we all know that Faith must come after hope. And desire to believe must come just before it.

And in the evening, when we would get tired, because we are still on central time, we would all get a little punch drunk and make the worst jokes. We would be eating and laughing so hard that those around us would have been sure we were drunk, but we all know the difference between those that drink and those that don't is that those that don't have any inhibitions in the first place.

And at the show- The most unorthodox thing to behold was a man wearing a fake pregnant belly. It was just kinda wrong- very wrong.- but made a great conversation piece.

Tonight was fun. We were out of the show by 6:11 (not bad, it didn't officially close until 6).
And we leisurely made our way to the airport at mock 1- (LA freeway, 6pm) Mom got confused on some of the lanes and went across 6 lines of traffic in one leap to make our exit.

We had dinner at a steak house and the sugar dish there was the cutest thing. It looked kinda like a space ship to begin with, but then I realized it was a little robot head with most adorable button nose and it started to sing "Good Night Sweetheart" and yawn so big that its nose stood straight up in the air. I asked the manager if I could buy it- but she said they didn't have any extra to sell. I will have to do a drawing of this up for you- it is just too cute.

And then we found a spa with chineze massages. And these women walked on your back and could do things I never dreamed possible with their feet. Very nice after a long week of lifting 90 pound luggages.

So far my family hasn't died without me. There is still life there- I just hope there isn't too much life lurking in all the unwashed corners :)

And Last night Mike told me that taking care of the kids and the house was "not a one man job."
But somehow they seem to expect 1 women to be able to do it.

more about the week

As soon as the tech was gone I rubbed my hands and said - now time to finish all the fashion show preps. Of course that took the next 6 days :)

Here are some pics:
There are many more pics but blogger only lets me put about 5 pics per post.

What a month! What A week!

The Arrival of my machine reminded me alot of giving birth. First of all it was labor intensive- and I have had labors that were shorter then the unloading and loading of the machine. And I have the picture to prove it.

The machine arrived Monday in very warm weather with about 15 minutes notice. The unloading took about another 45. And very much like Clay's birth Mo (my co-worker and conspirator) almost missed it entirely.

When it was finished being unloaded the tech asked me if it felt like Christmas. I told him more like birth because the unloading was just the beginning of a whole new world of responsibilities.
