I helped load a moving truck on Thursday. We thought it was hot enough then. Today we helped unload a completely different moving truck- but today it was sweltering. Part of this moving things around was setting up a king size bed in a garage. And I was joking about the stories my kids could tell their grandkids about the day it was sooo hot, that we had to set up a bed in the garage.
But then I realized that that story would pale without our kids and grandkids will experience. Maybe the garage will melt? Or get covered by feet of hail?

Ok, She can come now.
More effective then a "Go Away" sign.
Our big, friendly dog got himself sprayed by a skunk on our front steps last night.
But at least Mike already fixed the door knob to the garage, that broke the other day- so that entrance can be used again.
Other than that it seems like a glorious sunny day... And I am feeling ready to take it on. I need to take care of business and then I can head into my garden and prepare it (finally) for planting!

Sunday Night and All is Well.
not perfect, but well enough.
It was another beautiful day outside, with all the trees in blossom. The breeze was just enough to offset the early summer sun, and We, well at least Ewan and I, went to church. We picked up grandma on the way to save some gas.
By the time we got home from church It was nap time. Grandpa picked up Ewan to play with Ethan and Galen got all upset and tried to walk to grandpa's his old para found him (again, the second time in 3 days)... and sent her sister to the door to alert us. Mike was on the case.
Then he successfully kept Galen busy with some computer games. By dinner time, it was becoming fairly clear that Galen had walked through a wood tick nest or two. So we told him that the best course would be to cut his mop and then have a bath. That way it would be much easier to spot all the ticks, and indeed, we found 4 more just while he undressed.
But he now has a face... with out glasses. :)
And My fingers could use another round of soap to reduce the smell left from Ian's medical procedures tonight. The only kids that are still up are Galen, he wants a story and Ian, who fell asleep during his enema.

IT's that time
Yup, the first sign of summer is learning to get your reflexes straight.
If it's a mosquito you slap.
If it's a wood tick you pick.
Slapping a wood tick doesn't do any good and picking at a mosquito is just asking for another bite.

another weekend snow storm

sunny, but snowed in
Can you believe it? Another snow storm in April! This weather throws us back to what March should have been. And we are not plowed out yet. We get terrible drifting over our driveway and the small amount of clearance had by our minivan and pruis just doesn't cut it for drifted drives.
May is only 4 days away. My dad suggested May may not be coming this year. I told him that that would explain the weather, but it would also mean that I would pregnant forever- And I think I am against that notion.
I can't really guess at how much snow we got, as the wind made it quite thin in some places and quite heavy in others. All I know is our Sam Dog wanted out yesterday afternoon, and as soon as he got out there he looked around and changed his mind. I made him stay out for a while anyways.
So today I guess I get to make pancakes, and hang out with my sewing machine-.. working on all the indoor items on my "To do before the baby comes" list.
Which is really kinda sad, I was hoping to get out of the house today... I wanted to go to church and participate in Sis. Philaja's class on the talk given by King Ben to his people. But I guess that is life.
In the old days they had horses that pulled plows. Kinda makes me think about the usefulness of the horse. We have lots of deer. I wonder how it would work to have 6 white tailed deer pulling a plow? Sam would love to herd them.
well, enough with topic jumping and what not. Baby needs some pancakes!
She is a bony twerp at this point. Always at the surface with nice hard bones- grown mostly without milk, but heavy on the broccoli, beans and almonds.
She is definitely getting bigger, her bones have mostly filled up my belly and went beyond the first several ribs. She is nearly up to my sternum. She is going to have learn to grow out, and not just up. 7 more weeks. And then we get to see this cute little thing.... see if our guess are right and she is nothing but bones. I was teasing Mike that she could be like Grandpa Paul at birth. 6.5 pounds and 22.5" long. Grandma said he looked like a plucked squirrel. Galen was 22.5" long but 10 pounds, and he looked skinny too.
We shall see.... and I promise pics when the baby comes.

7.5 weeks to go
That means 5.5 weeks left of school, 3.5 weeks left of preschool. Of course mine is not scheduled. It might decide that 7.5 weeks is not it's number and do something like Clay and wait 8 weeks, or something like Ian and choose 6.5 weeks. But that doesn't concern me.
What concerns me is the never ending list of stuff that I would like to get done first. So far the 2 I was supposed have accomplished by now have not been completed. we still have to moved beds, get new bunk beds and put clay upstairs. I still have my little crib bumper to finish.... and I don't even want you to think about how bad my house looks right now. It is easy to tell that I was working rather then cleaning yesterday.
The good news is, all that sand comes from a sandbox that has received hours and hours of use since the weather warmed. The more they are outside, the better they sleep!!! Especially that Galen kid.- who doesn't want to go to school, but instead be playing outside. And physically, I can not get him dressed or drag him on to the bus any more. He has to have some measure of cooperation. Which will make it more challenging for school. School will now have to convince Galen that it is worth going......
Sounds like a challenge. Do you think the school can compete with sand and sun?

dreaming of sandy beaches
Baby is growing, moving up my backbone and pushing into my stomach regions. That means heartburn. That means good by sleeping flat, that means eating less, even though I am hungry more. Babies are weird that way. At a time when you need to consume the most nutrients and calories they start to take away your ability to.
After that baby starts invading your lung space, until you swear there is no room left in you to breathe. Then one magical day, you and the baby get sick of the cramped corners and you push him out. And all of sudden, your systems all work again, you can breathe, you can eat, you can sleep with out heartburn, stand without support and only will only have to potty every few hours (instead of every few minutes).
I am up. Early on a Saturday because baby woke me up with the two things babies like to make you do most. 1. potty, 2. Eat.
Besides that, my house is quiet, and I can almost think for a few minutes. And those thoughts- as I look outside to the vast whiteness of snow. Leads me to think of a desire to lay on a warm sandy beach. And then go out to a nice restaurant for dinner and order whole steak dinner, but only manage to eat 2 bites of steak and 1/2 a potato. (but don't even dream of asking me to share the cheesecake).
There is 3 weeks until my warm sandy vacation. 3 more weeks of wearing winter coats (I am just hoping mine will still zip around my basketball belly as long as winter holds out). 3 more weeks of wishing we could just toss the kids outside to play. It snowed too deeply here at the beginning of winter and the little ones couldn't play outside in it because the snow was up to their chests, and then they scream their heads off when their boots come off in the middle of the vast snow plains- usually about 12 inches down.
Then the snow sits, and kinda melts into a 14" glacier that covers the landscape with ice, but not any ice, the kind of ice that purposely grabs your boots and then cuts your ankles when you try to pull your leg out of it's massive jaws. Then if you add to that the weeks of -30 weather and then those furious wind chills that cut through all solid surfaces to steal your body heat away.... one starts to understand the reason the children haven't played outside much this winter.
We have no snow men. Sticky is not a quality our snow has possessed, maybe in March some blizzard will bring a flock of new snow that will have the right qualities for building with. Then one of my precious pumpkins will make a snow man with an extra ball in front of the belly and call it "Mommy." I can see it now; a child comes dripping melting snow all the way into my office to say "You gotta come look mommy, I made a snow man of you." And then I will obligated to spend several minutes putting on I have to wear for winter- 8 layers of spring maternity jackets, because my winter coat no longer fits, and then waddle out on the compacted layers of ice and through the 14" of fresh fallen sticky snow to see the pregnant snow Mommy and her basketball shaped belly. I am not sure if it will amuse me or annoy me. I guess that we will have to wait and see.
Meanwhile I think it is time to go potty and to eat again. Anybody who thinks all babies do is eat, sleep and poop, just forgot that for months before baby that seems like all their mommy's do to.

COLD!!
So cold they canceled school. Yup it is only -20 below right now, which is nothing in and of itself. The last few weeks we saw no end of -20, and -30, but the difference is we got a wind. A cold bitter wind with gusts of up to 30mph. That means a sweet little wind chill of about -50, -60. And for those that are unaware, winds chills like that can freeze you skin in 30 seconds flat. It also cuts through your coat, through your windows and into your house.
So I am home with kids today.... battling business and children, but if I need a break from the noise, I can always go freeze my brains out.
Anyways.... time to go make some pancakes. Life is always better with pancakes.

Sunday
IF there was ever a day to lay low it is usually a Sunday. As much as I wanted to get up and moving my brain and body were not cooperating with me today. Mom called at 9:30, we were all still in bed. And it took me until 1pm to even start the roast for dinner.
Isn't it interesting that the slower you move the faster your kids move? Like when you are carrying that turtle shell you babes are running at 100 mph. Right now I am trying to gauge how fast my children are moving, but my brain's built in high speed camera is not catching them. It sounds like some of them might have just crashed into each other. If I were to wish for anything right now it would be sunny skies. Then they could race around out side. Hasn't a month of rain been enough?

frost!
Man- that was a thick frost. Cold too. I always thought we had way too many blankets floating around my house- but when I had to tuck my garden in last night, I used most of them.
It still looks like I may have lost anything that touched the tops of the blankets, but I won't know for sure until it warms up a little more.

Fall Cleaning
With the cooler temps and the need for organized school clothes.. I have been cleaning this week.
I started yesterday with cleaning the boy's closets and organizing all clothes between the sizes of 3 and 16. Then today I did Clay's and baby clothes sizes nb-3T. Then instead of stopping, I cleaned out my closet. Went on to the hallway closet and now I am working on all the misc places where shoes and coats are stored. And at dinner time I throughly cleaned the fridge.
I am usually not big into seasonal cleaning, But right it is the deep cleaning, the closet and secret place cleaning. Cobwebs and disorganization leaves these places unused and all the goodness in them wasted- so it is time to clean, to make room and to utilize.

Ewan the Gardener

As you can see by the pic of my Ewan that he is a very good gardener. He worked very hard yesterday planting and preparing beds and watering.
We now have a mini orchard. 8 fruit trees encircle our play system. Not only will we have apples, plums, apricots and cherries, we will have some shade and wind block for the splay area.
This next pic is just some of the wild flowers that like to adorn my yard. I like wild flowers. They usually have a pleasant smell, are abundant and easy to take care.
Speaking of abundant, the raspberries are in full bloom and everyday we go pic more to eat. Today they ended up in a fruit salad. The Earth has enough and to spare if we now how to love her.

Pee happy!
We are happy. Every time we went to cath Ian today, his diaper was nice and wet. And when I did the computations, he is peeing as much at home as they got out of the caths.
Our sandbox is in and thursday we get our Rainbow. The kids are very excited. Tonight in the beautiful evening weather I took down the jungle in our back yard and ran the lawn mower out of gas. Luckily Mike knew that there was another tank.
